Picking Up the Guitar as an Adult

Learning guitar later in life is humbling in a good way. There's no pretending you're a natural — your fingers don't want to cooperate, the chords buzz, and the first few weeks sound rough. But I stuck with it, and it's turned into one of the hobbies I'm gladdest I kept.

What I didn't expect was how much I'd enjoy the small wins. The first time a chord change stops feeling like a fight, or a song you love finally comes together under your own hands — that's a genuinely great feeling. Progress is slow, but it's real, and you can hear it.

It's also just a good way to unplug. Fifteen minutes with the guitar and I'm not thinking about anything else. I'm never going to play a stadium, and that was never the point. It's a hobby that rewards patience, and I think everybody should have one of those.
