Why Jazz Belongs on Every Drive
I bounce around a lot of genres, but when I'm behind the wheel with somewhere to be and no rush to get there, I almost always land on jazz. Something about it fits the rhythm of a good drive — it fills the space without demanding all of your attention.
It's the musicianship that keeps pulling me back. A great jazz record is a conversation: players listening to each other, taking turns, building something in the moment. Put that through the speakers on an open stretch of road and it just works — the mood matches the movement.
There are a handful of records I never get tired of — the classic late-night stuff, a bit of bebop when I want energy, something mellow when I don't. I won't pretend to be a purist about it; I'm just a fan who thinks the right album can turn an ordinary drive into the best part of the day.
