The Zen of Detailing a Car
People assume detailing a car is a chore. For me it's the opposite — it's one of my favorite ways to spend a slow afternoon. There's something genuinely calming about the process: two buckets, a good wash mitt, and no agenda except doing it right.
A lot of it is the focus. When you're working one panel at a time, watching the water sheet off clean paint, your brain quiets down. It's the same reason people like gardening or cooking — a task with your hands, a visible result, and no screen involved. An hour disappears and you barely notice.
And the payoff is immediate. Step back at the end and the car looks like it did the day it rolled out — deep, clean, sharp. It's a small thing, but taking care of something you enjoy is its own reward. I'll take a quiet detailing session over almost any other kind of downtime.
