The Coast Road Is the Whole Point
Give me the choice between the fast route and the coast road, and I'll take the coast road every time — even if it doubles the drive. When the ocean's on one side and the road keeps bending into the next view, getting there stops being the goal. The drive is the goal.
It's the best argument I know for why the journey beats the destination. A good stretch of scenic road with the right music on is one of my favorite feelings, full stop. No traffic to fight, nowhere to be by a certain time, just the next curve and whatever's around it.
I think everyone should build a few of these drives into their life. Take the long way sometimes. Pull over when the view's worth it. The scenery you'd blow past at seventy on the highway is the whole reason to go slower and take the pretty road instead.
